Halad ‘Offering’ Featuring the Corpin Family: Melvin, Carla, Carl, Mac, Meeko & Meldian

WARAYNON INITIATIVE NETWORK (WIN), the same organization that brought you the poignantly entertaining masterpiece HA IMO LA ( For You Alone) in 2014 and the memorable musical showcase of love, pain, despair and hope in LAMRAG (Ray of Light) in 2015, PROUDLY PRESENTS an epic display of outstanding artistry – HALAD (Offering) – on July 23, 2016 at the Barnsdall Gallery Theatre in Los Angeles, CA. HALAD will feature the maestro, MELVIN GLER CORPIN and his family.
HALAD is Waraynon Initiative Network’s 3rd fundraising concert. DON’T MISS IT!

Melvin Gler Corpin is Waraynon Initiative Network’s VP for Ensemble, Training and Development. He conceptualized HA IMO LA, LAMRAG and now, HALAD and is the show’s Musical & Artistic Director. He was born and raised in the Philippines and at the very early age of 4 started to play the piano by ear, began composing and arranging songs at the age of 10. It is no wonder that he graduated cum laude from the Leyte Normal University in Tacloban City with a Bachelor of Arts in Music. After graduation, he started to organize numerous concerts of parish choirs, and the different choirs from government and public sectors in the Eastern Visayas Region (Leyte, Samar and Biliran). Likewise, he was commissioned by Philippine government officials and church leaders to write and arrange theme songs and mass songs for special events. He traveled to the different parts of the Philippines as a resource speaker for choir workshops and across continents to Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Jerusalem and Australia through the charismatic movement’s Family of God’s Little Children (FGLC) of Tacloban City as a music director of the music ministry of FGLC.
Melvin has won numerous local songwriting contests in the Eastern Visayas Region of the Philippines. He was a trainer of choral groups that won competitions in the local and national levels.
While Conductor of the STEFTI Children’s Choir, the choir won major awards during multiple occasions in the National Music Competition for Young Artists at the Cultural Center of the Philippines.

His extraordinary talent as musical arranger led to a collaboration with Philippine national artist Bienvenido Lumbera in arranging songs for national based stage plays. Melvin has also collaborated with songwriter Lucien Letaba in creating award-winning songs for Philippine Indie movies. He arranged Lucien’s “Di Ako Titigil” (I Won’t Stop) from the movie “Burgos” at the Golden Screen Awards of the ABS-CBN in Manila and bagged the Best Song 2014 award. Also, he arranged the FAMAS (Philippine’s OSCARS) best song nominee, “Saan Ako Tutungo” (Where Am I Going?), from the movie “Migrante” also composed by Lucien. In fact, one of the songs featured in HALAD is a Lucien Letaba original entitled “Balud” (Wave)

His musical genius is what brought him to the US. He was commissioned by the St. Monica Parish Church in Carpentersville, Illinois to be its choir’s Music Director from 2008-2011. Currently, he is the Music Director of the Our Lady of the Valley Parish Choir in Pahrump, Nevada.

Melvin is married to WIN’s songstress, the sultry and soulful, Carla Edralin Corpin. Carla is a very versatile singer who renders songs of various genres, from ballads to rock. Carla was born in Manila, Philippines. Her dad was from Ilocos, and her mom is from Iloilo. She is a nurse by profession in Las Vegas, Nevada. Carla started singing at her early formative years and has appeared in various concerts in Tacloban and the whole Eastern Visayas Region in the Philippines.

Melvin and Carla have been playing beautiful music together ever since they met. Music is the other language of their household. They passed on their musical genes to their four (4) sons who all play different instruments for the WIN ORCHESTRA.

Meldian Corpin (Jajan or Mel) is a graduate of Information Technology from ITT-TECH, Las Vegas, Nevada and plays violin, arranges for stringed orchestra. Meldian has played in different shows in California and Las Vegas.

Friends and Family,

As many of you know, I am an active member of the Waraynon Initiative Network (WIN). Our annual concert, Halad, will take place on July 23rd to help raise funds for a medical mission to Tacloban City in 2017. However, I know many of my friends and family are unable to attend, as they live on the east coast, so I setup up a YouCaring site to accept donations from those that would still like to contribute. Please take a few minutes to visit my page and learn about how I became involved with this amazing non-profit organization! Any amount, large or small, will get us one step close to helping those in need. For more information about WIN, please visit www.winarts.org or email me with any questions! Thank you in advance for considering to donate to our cause!

With love,
Rachel (an honorary Filipina)
